It’s no best-kept secret that Britain is a nation of food lovers and alcohol enthusiasts, so when the opportunity to enjoy both delicacies at once presents itself by way of an outdoor market…well, we just can’t say no, now can we?
Open-air food markets might have been around for yonks. But in the last few years, we’ve watched them go from being fairly popular to a hot spot for date nights, days out with friends or family; and they are, of course, great fun for tourists too, since they’re also a fantastic and convenient way of exploring the local culinary culture come rain or shine. And with that, we can’t wait to tell you all about an amazing street food market we were lucky enough to have visited a couple of weeks back!
The organiser of the event, Matt, had gotten in touch with Hog Roast Islip weeks beforehand to ask if we would be free to cater on the day of the event, and as luck would have it, we did, in fact, have an opening in our diary that day. Matt was ecstatic to hear this news and quickly went on to tell us about the craft ale vendors who would also be there, and knowing that nothing matches an ice-cool glass of beer better than a hog roast roll, he asked that we serve our Classic Hog Roast Menu to the masses.
With a busy day ahead of them, the Hog Roast Islip team had spent all morning preparing for the event, which had attracted the attention of hundreds of people from in and around the city. Using the HogMaster Pro, the crew effortlessly slow-roasted a large pig over a low flame, allowing the juices from the meat to drip into the thick layer of sage and onion stuffing below, resulting in a richer and more intense flavour. They had also scored the skin of the pig to create a layer of crispy crackling, and for the end result, they packed all of the above onto gluten-free rolls with applesauce, coleslaw and salad.
With a refreshing cup of ale in one hand and a juicy Hog Roast Islip roll in the other, the guests each had a fantastic afternoon, and Matt was extremely impressed with how well our team performed.
